What is a Garlic Scape?
In case if you are unaware of what a Garlic Scape is, then it may come as a surprise to you that it happens to be both the stem and the leaf of the garlic plant at the same time. A Garlic Scape happens to be hollow from the inside but its walls are so strong that no only can they make the scape upright but also hold the flowers when they bloom out of it. Since the garlic plant does not have leaves, the scapes are filled of chlorophyll and therefore make all the glucose that the garlic plant needs in order to grow properly. It also makes certain other chemicals besides the glucose needed for proper growth, which is then stored inside the garlic bulb, in its cloves. Just like the garlic bulb, the garlic scapes are also used in cooking practices across many parts of the world and are enjoyed a much as the garlic cloves themselves.
