Sitting Judges of the Court Resource

The Chief Justice of India is the highest position obtainable by a judge in
India.

The chief justice of the Supreme Court is appointed on the basis of seniority by the President of India.The nominees for chief justice of the supreme court must have an experience of being judge of highcourt for at least 5 years, or be a lawyer for 10 years in the high court. Appointments of other judges to the Supreme Court are made by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice.

The Chief Justice occupies courtroom no 1 of the Supreme Court of India. Amongst his/her responsibilities are the fixing of benches.

Y.K. Sabharwal (Chief Justice of India )
Yogesh Kumar Sabharwal (born on January 14, 1942) is the 36th and current Chief Justice of India.
He was sworn in as the Chief Justice by the present President of India A P J Abdul Kalam on November 1, 2005 for a period of about 14 months ending on January 14, 2007

K.G. Balakrishnan
Konakuppakatil Gopinathan Balakrishnan aka Justice K G Balakrishnan is an Indian Judge and member of the Indian Supreme Court.
Judge Balakrishnan was born in 1945, in a poor family in
Thalayolaparambu village in the Kottayam district of Kerala. His belonged to the Pulaya caste, which was considered one of the lowest of all castes in Kerala.
